THE OAKVILLE ART SOCIETY

Get to Know Us Better

The Oakville Art Society was founded in 1965. A Canadian registered charity, it was incorporated formally in Ontario on July 12, 1971 as a not-for-profit corporation, member-owned and governed. It is largely self-sustaining and relies on its members who volunteer their time and expertise to operate two studios and a gallery shop at our premises at 560 Bronte Road.

Since its beginning, in a small white cottage rented from the town of Oakville located at Coronation Park, the Society has continued to grow.

It exists with a charitable purpose to provide facilities and an environment where artistic skills can be developed and to encourage art appreciation.  It provides art classes for adults and children of all ages during fall, winter, spring and summer.

All OAS teachers are highly qualified in their field and medium. The Society offers a wide variety of art related programs which appeal to people of all skill levels.  There is space available for members to work on their creations and to socialize. Over the course of a year, hundreds of students, adult and children, discover the tremendous joy and excitement found in artistic expression.

Society members take an active role in the operation of the Society. It is only through this active participation that the Society is able to maintain its independent, self-supporting status, and foster a greater appreciation for art.
